Patient Privacy
HIPAA, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, is a Federal regulation established to provide protections for the privacy and security of an individual's health information. Hennepin Faculty Associates is dedicated to the protection of your personal health information and has adopted many policies and procedures to comply with these regulations. In this section, you can review the HFA Notice of Privacy Practices as well as download a copy for yourself. In addition, HIPAA allows individual's certain rights regarding their individual health information. These rights include:
- The right to request an alternative method of communication;
- The right to request restrictions on who has access to your individual health information;
- The right to access your individual health information;
- The right to have an accounting of who has had access to your health information outside the parameters of payment, treatment and operations;
- The right to request an amendment of your health information.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office for Civil Rights (OCR) have HIPAA Privacy Rule guides that address common questions about important communications, targeting an area of the HIPAA Privacy Rule that is frequently misunderstood by health care providers and patients.
