Dr. Mathew received his MBBS from Pondicherry University in 1996 and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research from 1997-2000 leading to his MD degree. He spent two years as a registrar in Internal Medicine and Neurology, then completed an internship and residency at SUNY-Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York. While at SUNY, Dr. Mathew participated in a research project on the relationship of bovine leukemia virus and breast cancer.
Dr. Mathew's special interests are molecular biology and the role of retroviruses in oncogenesis. Dr. Mathew also has a fellowship in Hematology, Oncology and Transplantation from the University of Minnesota.
