Dr. Miner earned his medical degree in 1996 from Mayo Medical School in Rochester, MN. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) in 1999, and then joined the HCMC Emergency Department Staff in 1999. Dr. Miner is also an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Minnesota Medical School. He is board certified in Emergency Medicine and is an Associate Editor of Academic Emergency Medicine. He is the research director of the Department of Emergency Medicine at HCMC.

Dr. Miner has conducted research in the areas of pain management and procedural sedation in the Emergency Department. He recently edited a textbook on pain management and sedation (Emergency Pain and Sedation, Cambridge University Press, 2008) and has authored chapters about pain management and sedation in several other textbooks. He also conducts research in the effects of poverty on patients seen in the Emergency Department.
